It is established into a laboratory of 60 m2 with a special protocol between Mir Ar-Ge and Metallurgy & Materials Engineering Department of Yildiz Technical University. The majority of the existing testing and analysis equipment belong to Mir Unique Solutions, and an undergraduate course is given in this laboratory according to the agreement, as well as graduation, graduate and doctoral dissertation works are in progress. So far, two MSc thesis were completed in this collaboration while two PhD and one MSc thesis are being carried out.
Studies performed in the laboratory are the production and investigation of polymer-based composite materials on a laboratory scale. Within this context, mainly production of fiber (glass, aramid, polyester) reinforced thermoplastic/thermosetting composite structures, tests and examinations of obtained samples are performed. Many production methods take place such as hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, filament winding, vacuum injection, compression molding. Blending thermoplastic polymers with various additives (calcite, talc, mica, metal powders, graphite, etc.) using a thermokinetic mixer and their recycling are some of the studied subjects. Composite samples are characterized by impact test, tensile test, three point bending test, long term creep test, microscopic examination, capillary rheometry and etc.
Laboratory of Chemistry and Electrochemical Sensor
Laboratory of Chemistry and Electrochemical Sensor is first established as a Chemistry Laboratory in molding (tooling) section of Mir Unique Solutions on a 50 m2 area in 2009, and various projects are carried out in this laboratory in the fields of chemical sensor technology, agricultural science and medical technologies. Currently a chemist, MSc and two chemical engineers work in the laboratory. All devices in the laboratory are owned by Mir Unique Solutions, and they are used for research and development studies in electrochemical sensor technology application areas (agriculture, medical, environment etc). On the other hand, the laboratory is equipped with graduate and doctoral study supportive infrastructure (devices and consumable chemicals), and two MSc theses and one PhD thesis is still continuing in the laboratory.
It is established in the Mir Unique Solutions building on a 120 m2 area. Performance testing of plastic pipe and fittings in every size and type, and the characterization of polymer-based material can be conducted in this laboratory. Committed measurements and tests include tensile test, impact test, the DSC measurement, MFI measurement, the short-term to long-term hydrostatic pressure tests, ring stiffness tests, determination of moisture content and ash content tests. Polymer Research laboratory is the first laboratory of Mir Unique Solutions with the highest knowledge.
