- Problem/Need İdentification
The most important stage requiring “knowledge” in R&D cycle is the identification and clarification of the real problem behind the apparent one. Knowing this fact, we try to find the basic technical reason of apparent problem to develop any solutions for it. This stage is the “R” of R&D, and in most of the cases, MIR makes a difference even at that stage with the staff comprising of experts from various disciplines.
- Concept/İdea Development
After identification of the problem, a general concept of solution or an idea to solve the problem are developed. Multi-disciplinary working habit brings novel points of view, which leads to genuine ideas.
- Design, simulation & Analysis
A draft process is designed in accordance with the developed idea. Various details of this design are modeled and analyzed by using high-performance-computing (HPC) and computer-aided-engineering (CAE) infrastructure of MIR. If necessary, MIR has also the privilege to use super-computers. During CAE studies, simulation of mechanisms in the draft design and analysis of heat/fluid transport & structural mechanics help to find problems in the process. These simulation and analysis studies lead to an optimized final process design.
A prototype of the optimized process design is manufactured at the MIR machining workshops.
- Trials, testing-validation
Various trials are performed on the prototype, and some corrections are added to the prototype design. Then, the final product of prototype trials is tested in MIR laboratories. MIR has considerable experience and background on polymers/composites processing & testing, polymer/composite processing equipment design & manufacturing, thanks to her activities on these subjects for years. Using this background, MIR has the capability to develop specific test systems & test equipment required. Thanks to its good relations with the universities, MIR can get help from the academicians on the extrapolation of test results, if necessary.
- Method Development & Documenting
After having wide knowledge on the process behavior at the earlier stages, a production method for the process designed is developed and then documented, reported. This is the basis of the documents like “guidelines”, “manuals”, “specifications” etc.
- İmplementation/Demonstration of the Developed Technological Solutions
In this last stage, the optimized, tested, verified and documented prototype solution is scaled up to pilot/industrial solution. At the end of this stage, all the work is finalized and the last-minor- modifications are done.
